Has anyone on this listserve had any experience in dealing with the nausea caused by the medications?

I have heard taking Sinemet with orange juice can help to lessen the nausea associated with taking it.

Has anyone on this listserve had any experience in dealing with the nausea caused by the medications? We have tried ginger, coke and a new drug from Canada called Dom Peridon (not the wine). We are presently trying crackers with the medication, to see if that helps! Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.....

My dad has had this problem ... he was never able to take much Sinemet

He's on the DomPeridone too! It has helped but it takes a long !!! time... He also takes extra carbidopa (I think thats it)...

He started by taking the DP 3x a day and Sinemet only once and now manages to take 3 sinemet a day ... he still feels a little ikky after he eats but its nowhere as bad as it was

You mentioned coke but did you try coca cola syrup it is an old fashioned cure for naseau and upchucking. I used it for years with my 7 kids and it worked every time.

This is different than present day coke. It was hard to find for a while but some druggists carry it again.

The way to take it is 15 minutes before you are eating anything. 1 to 2 tablespoons sipped slowly then after 15 minutes eat 1 or 2 soda crackers. usually sold in 4 or 4 oz. Bottles.

It seems we go through cycles and find that sometimes grandmas knew best.

My husband has nausea caused mainly by Requip. He puts up with it. Sometimes takes ginger. He does look a bit greenish some days but prefers to wait for it to go away

I don't know if this will help, but my mothers lets the Sinemet dissolve in her mouth before she swallows (she has gotten used to the taste), and I think she has less nausea then would otherwise be the case.

How long has your wife been using Sinemet? Usually, the nausea goes away after a few weeks; if it continues beyond that, or if it's unusually severe, you can ask her physician to prescribe Lodosyn (this is Carbidopa) which usually alleviates nausea.

Some people get good results from eating a piece of crystallized ginger or having a cup of ginger tea. Others get some relief from taking the Sinemet with 7-up or ginger ale, along with some crackers.

It is generally suggested that Sinemet be given an hour before or an hour after a meal except when this produces nausea. Then it is suggested you try it with a meal for a while.

Having Sinemet with a meal is all right, but just minimize or even just eliminate proteins; you can eat carbohydrates and fats, but fruits may be best.

It seems to me that there is more to it than the Sinemet causing nausea. My wife can go weeks without the nausea and suddenly without warning she'll make a quick trip to the bathroom and upchuck, without any changes being made with her meds. The next day she may not have it at all. My point is ,if it were the Sinemet alone causing the nausea she would have it every day because she has Sinemet every day. Any ideas?
