A friend of mine told me about a situation her friend's husband is in and I'm wondering if anyone here has any advice about it. The situation is that the man who is about 55 (I think) has just been diagnosed with Parkinsons Diseaese after a number o fyears of not wanting to go to doctors to figure out the problem. He apparently was having more and more trouble at work related to specific symptoms that now clearly are connected with PD--ie) balance, etc.. He retired (or quit, I'm not sure) from work without filing for any disability since he didn't know he had PD. He also was very depressed about it. They are a lower income family and struggle with day to day living costs. I told my friend I thought they should contact a lawyer that does disability work, and they probably will do that. However, I'm wondering if anyone has had any experience with trying to retro--apply for disability support and/or has any other helpful advice for them?
