This is just something I was wondering about. My mom takes 3/4 of a Sinemet 10/100 every hour from 6 a.m. until 9 p.m. and has no off time at all since changing to this schedule a month ago. I know that before she did have off time, especially in the afternoon when she was tired. Now she can go all day, from when she gets up until she goes to bed at night, and is able to get around fairly well (except for the falling which is obviously not going to go away but she says it is somewhat less over the past week but sometimes it's hard to tell because she hides it unless there is an obvious symptom such as a bruise she can't cover or a swollen body part).

Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone else was taking their medication in this manner and if their response was the same. It is a pain to take a pill every hour but it's easier to remember than every hour and a half because I know if it's 3:05 and she hasn't had one, she's late so it's a little easier to remember.

Of course the major drawback is breaking all those little pills into fourths so she can take a half and a fourth.

I am interested in your posting for a few reasons.

Because my wife was having difficult on/off periods her neuro suggested and devised a plan to "melt" the total daily sinimet dosage into an measured amount of orange juice. Having prepared the total daily mg's into liquid form it was taken in measured hourly drinks and totally eliminated breaking pills.

Whats the difference? You still have to swallow the pills with something... The pd'er should have about 3000 units of vit c everyday anyway... And the sharp on/offs symptoms are now only a memory.

At the least, speak with her neuro about it and with a little math he/she can determine the amount to "drink" each hour.

About your mom taking 3/4 of a sinemet every hour. My mom takes about the same total (a bit more, depending on bedtime and when she gets up during the night), but a somewhat more staggered formula. (She starts the day with a double dose.) (However, your mom seems to get better results.)

My mom's sinemet is in a capsule form -- and that might be easier to divide than a pill. Or, you may ask the pharmacist to break the pills for you.
